This program provides assistance to commercial property and business owners within the Business Improvement Area (BIA) affected by criminal activity.
PROGRAM OUTLINE
The Downtown Resilience Program (DRP) is a two-year pilot initiative supporting downtown businesses that have been impacted by criminal activity and helps them invest in preventative safety improvements that strengthen long-term business resilience.
Funding is available through two streams: Rapid Response – Damage & Recovery and Prevention & Resilience – Safety Improvements. Businesses located within the Downtown Moncton Business Improvement Area (BIA) may apply for financial assistance to help offset damages caused by criminal activity or to implement security upgrades that reduce the risk of repeat incidents.
The following types of projects will be considered:
Rapid Response – Damage & Recovery
Support for businesses recovering from vandalism or criminal damage, including:
- Window, door, or storefront repairs
- Graffiti removal and surface restoration
- Lock, frame, or door repairs resulting from break-ins
- Cleanup related to vandalism or malicious mischief
- Insurance deductibles
- Uninsured portions of damage or loss
Funding: Up to $5,000 per property per calendar year
Prevention & Resilience – Safety Improvements
Support for projects that improve safety and reduce the risk of future incidents, including:
- Exterior security cameras or monitoring systems
- Exterior or rear-lane lighting
- Access control systems
- Reinforced doors, locks, and frames
- Security film or shatter-resistant glazing
- Anti-graffiti coatings
- CPTED-aligned fencing, bollards, or planters
- Safety or de-escalation training
Funding: Up to 50% of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $10,000 per property per year
